Back to Hawk's Landing!

3/10/2008

Orlando, Florida

Today was a "lazy" day for Mrs. Head Nut and me. We "dinked" around in the morning until it was time to leave for a business lunch at Seasons52 (which is a great restaurant by the way.)

We got finished too late to visit any of the theme parks (that's zero Disney in two trips...I'm on a roll) so I got a "hall pass" to squeeze in a quick 18 at Hawk's Landing. I was just a little disappointed in the condition of the greens but other than that, the course was just as amazing as it was six weeks ago when I played it for the first time.

Since my brain surgery in late October of 2006, I haven't been in the 70s very often, so the 77 I shot in the late afternoon was a real thrill! I even did it with a triple bogey 8 on a short par-5 where I misjudged the wind going for the green in two and then mishit a sand wedge after I dumped that second shot in the pond. So, I found the green in 6 with two penalties and two-putted for 8...OUCH!

Anyway, I share this with you to remind us how strange and elusive good golf really is. Even with that triple, my round seemed effortless, the wind was mild and the temperature perfect. Everything about the round (and the day) was memorable and joyful (I even found a cigar smoker's "Magic Kingdom" when we finished lunch.) I'm pretty sure it can always be that way. I'm also pretty sure that I'm going to try like crazy to play every round like a "big kid." Maybe THAT is the real "secret.?"
