My phone JUST rang with a call from one of my "inside" sources telling me of the demise of the magazine Vegas Golfer. I can't say I'm surprised. You see, the folks who put out Vegas Golfer, although good people, had come to believe that they were somehow quite unique and different. Unfortunately, they had become just another infomercial for local courses who could pay enough to advertise and regurgitaters (I think I just invented a word) of the Professional Tour press coverage. It's a jungle out there! I wish them the best in whatever they decide to do. How does that effect or reflect on the Golf Nut Society? It doesn't. Our mission is to uncover original content, grow our community and offer as much value as possible to our membership. It is a mission we take seriously. It is a mission at which we work every day. I have said it many times before, the Golf Nut Society is YOUR community. Like most communities, you can be as active or as passive as you like. Also like most communities, you will get more out of it as you put more into it. I hope you will each find some spare time (when you aren't on the golf course) to help grow our community and make it a place where Golf Nuts worldwide will feel right at home. No more preaching from me. Tomorrow, I leave for Mesquite, Nevada to play in the Golf Channel "Duel in the Desert." I'm not taking my computer, so you will all have to wait a little longer for my stories on my journeys over the past few weeks! I really want to play well and my game seems to have found new life so I don't want to mess it up! When I get back I promise to bring you up-to-date on the 50th Anniversary of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, my trip to The Villages (America's Friendliest Hometown,) the PGA Show and Jim McMahon's Swang & Super Bowl Bash in addition to the inside-the-ropes story of the Golf Channel Duel. Check back soon and remember...we're ALL Nuts about Golf! Head Nut #0001

I'd Be Angry, too...
Pat Perez should be an angry young man. He has a great golf game and has forever been capable of going low in tournament play. Yet, somehow, he still can't get any respect! There are people "inside the ropes" in golf who still think that the openning round 61 followed by today's 63 are a "fluke." "No Fluke. It's no fluke," Perez said after his 2nd Round 63. "I worked like hell this off season. So this is kind of what I expected when I got here." |

TALK ABOUT A PAIN IN THE ...Live from the 50th Anniversary Bob Hope Chysler Classic Cliff Kresge is a nice guy. The journeyman PGA vet has a blue collar approach to what he does.He also has a no-nonsense way of communicating. "How do I feel? My back hurst so bad I may not even play today. I'll know pretty soon." Kresge said this morning on the range. "Anybody got any Tylenol?" Kresge shouted down the line of pros warming up for round two of the 50th Anniversary Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Nobody did. At the PGA level it is almost always "golfer know best" when it comes to injuries. Before round one, rising tour star Anthony Kim withdrew because of a bum shoulder and it was looking for pretty bleak for Kresge during his warm up. But Cliff Kresge is a professional and he knows that sometimes you have to play through the pain. That's exactly what he did on Thursday. Bad back and all Kresge went out on the Palmer Private Course at PGA West, the Host Course for the torunament, and shot a blistering 9-under par, 63 to play himself into contention. Ninety Holes is a long golf tournament and there are still 54 holes left to play, but Kresge has to be feeling just a little better about his chances. I guessing that somebody finally found some Tylenol. the Head Nut #0001 Live from the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

Cool Runnings
From PGA
West at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic
After an 11- under par, 61,
what do you do for an encore? What kind of pressure do you feel? How to you
handle the next round of the tournament? The air around you should almost
vibrate with tension, or at least that’s what most people would think. |
