My phone JUST rang with a call from one of my "inside" sources telling me of the demise of the magazine Vegas Golfer. I can't say I'm surprised. You see, the folks who put out Vegas Golfer, although good people, had come to believe that they were somehow quite unique and different. Unfortunately, they had become just another infomercial for local courses who could pay enough to advertise and regurgitaters (I think I just invented a word) of the Professional Tour press coverage. It's a jungle out there! I wish them the best in whatever they decide to do.

How does that effect or reflect on the Golf Nut Society? It doesn't. Our mission is to uncover original content, grow our community and offer as much value as possible to our membership. It is a mission we take seriously. It is a mission at which we work every day. I have said it many times before, the Golf Nut Society is YOUR community. Like most communities, you can be as active or as passive as you like. Also like most communities, you will get more out of it as you put more into it. I hope you will each find some spare time (when you aren't on the golf course) to help grow our community and make it a place where Golf Nuts worldwide will feel right at home. No more preaching from me.

Tomorrow, I leave for Mesquite, Nevada to play in the Golf Channel "Duel in the Desert." I'm not taking my computer, so you will all have to wait a little longer for my stories on my journeys over the past few weeks! I really want to play well and my game seems to have found new life so I don't want to mess it up! When I get back I promise to bring you up-to-date on the 50th Anniversary of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, my trip to The Villages (America's Friendliest Hometown,) the PGA Show and Jim McMahon's Swang & Super Bowl Bash in addition to the inside-the-ropes story of the Golf Channel Duel.
