TALK ABOUT A PAIN IN THE ...

Live from the 50th Anniversary Bob Hope Chysler Classic

Cliff Kresge is a nice guy. The journeyman PGA vet has a blue collar approach to what he does.He also has a no-nonsense way of communicating. "How do I feel? My back hurst so bad I may not even play today. I'll know pretty soon." Kresge said this morning on the range. "Anybody got any Tylenol?" Kresge shouted down the line of pros warming up for round two of the 50th Anniversary Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Nobody did.

At the PGA level it is almost always "golfer know best" when it comes to injuries. Before round one, rising tour star Anthony Kim withdrew because of a bum shoulder and it was looking for pretty bleak for Kresge during his warm up. But Cliff Kresge is a professional and he knows that sometimes you have to play through the pain. That's exactly what he did on Thursday. Bad back and all Kresge went out on the Palmer Private Course at PGA West, the Host Course for the torunament, and shot a blistering 9-under par, 63 to play himself into contention.

Ninety Holes is a long golf tournament and there are still 54 holes left to play, but Kresge has to be feeling just a little better about his chances. I guessing that somebody finally found some Tylenol.
