FAT AIN'T WHERE IT'S AT!

I am both happy and sad today. As many of you know, I was forced to take some time off golf because of my third brain surgery. I suffered  tremendous golf withdrawal during my healing time because the operation was very successful and now allows me to be pain-free for the first time in two long years! Good news...bad news... I felt better, but I couldn't play golf. OK, short term stuff and I won't sweat the small stuff. However, there was also some LARGE stuff and that is really making me sad.

Yeah, I'm talking in circles and hoping to avoid the issue. Well, here it is, because I was so inactive since August, I have gained an appalling 20 pounds! I call it appalling for reasons other than the obvious, the extra weight has effected my golf game! My swing is terrible. The extra weight certainly hasn't added any power, in fact I'm losing precious yardage off the tee because my turn is restricted and my clubhead speed is slower. My first three rounds back resulted in bogey golf and drives in the 220 yard range. Ouch! In addition, I'm sore afyter my round and I know why, I'm out-of-shape!

So, I'm off red meat (again) and beginning to work out. My kids got me a Total Gym for Christmas (still in boxes...I'm putting it up tomorrow) and a Heavy-Bag for boxing, so I'm confident that I'll be back in golf shape quickly. Next week, we will be adding some items to the GNS Pro-Shop and opening up for business. I tell you this now, because two items will be in the Pro Shop that helped me last year to increase my average drive to over 250 yards (I've never been a big knocker off the tee.) Those items are Sona Balls (basically heavy medicine balls with handles) and the DVD "Taking Pilates Techniquesonto the Course" (easy but effective Pilates stretches especially designed for golfers.) I hope you will take advantage of these game improvement tools. I'm back to using them every day!

Tomorrow I will be playing my first round of competitive golf of the year with the Desret Duffers at Tuscany Golf Course. The weather is forecast to be 48 degrees with wind! That will be a real challenge for me in my current shape. I'll let you know how it goes. The good news is that I enter the round with no expectations and I am excited to play.

Hope you are all as lucky as I am,
