The Knockdown Shot By #5636 It is that time of the year when the weather can play a huge part in scoring well, not to mention enjoying the game of golf. One shot that is indispensable when the winter winds kick up is a Knockdown Shot. It’s easy to learn and can be extremely helpful to lower you score in bad conditions. When hitting a Knockdown Shot people tend to swing quicker and harder, which creates more spin on the ball. This is a BIG MISTAKE in the wind because spin will cause the ball to balloon. Believe it or not, the key to hitting this shot properly is to swing easier. For example, say you are at your typical 6 iron distance with your normal swing. With the wind blowing you just know a six won’t do the job. To get home the answer is simple, keep the ball low. All you have to do is take a 5 iron (or even a 4 iron) and grip down on the club. Take a nice smooth swing, which will put less spin on the ball and keeps the flight of the ball lower, resulting in a knockdown shot that will fly the correct distance and get you close to the hole. Give it a try on the course and see if your scores in bad wind conditions don’t start to fall.
