THE 'BOO' BIRDS: With his homespun ways and aw-shucks demeanor, Boo Weekley has become something of a cult hero in the last two years. The man who lives in a town of less than 800 understandably is still adjusting to all the scrutiny.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Boo Weekley is fast becoming a Pete Dye aficionado. Now, he'd probably tell you he doesn't know what that word means, of course, but Weekley's a fan, nonetheless.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- When he was six years old, Anthony Kim, who lacks for confidence the way Warren Buffett lacks for pocket change, already harbored ambitious athletic endeavors.

Q. So how was your round?

DOUG MILNE: We would like to welcome back Anthony Kim, second round 2-under par 70 today, you obviously had to work for it with the wind conditions. Just a few opening comments on the round today.

Player: Phil Mickelson Rank: 2nd Points: 10,571 Obviously, at second in the FedExCup points standings, Mickelson is playing well. But his win at the Northern Trust Open obscures just how well he's playing. He is second in average points per start, and fifth in average points per start excluding wins. With the exception of his missed cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Mickelson has not been outside the top 25 in any of his 9 other starts, including a first, a second, a tied for fifth and a tie for sixth.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- It was the best of times and the worst of times Thursday in the opening round of THE PLAYERS Championship, and tee-off times largely determined which fate each of the 144 competitors would encounter.

FORT SMITH, Ark. -- Tommy Gainey and Matt Weibring aren't complaining after shooting 6-under-par 64s Thursday in the opening round of the Fort Smith Classic. Kris Cox was admittedly surprised to post his best round of the year, a 64 as well.

ALEXANDER: Thank you for joining us for a few minutes in the media center at THE PLAYERS Championship, nice start to your week, 6-under 66, and I was noticing that you did very well on your last two rounds here in 2007. Does that kind of carry over? I guess so. This is definitely one of my favorite courses, so it's always nice to go back to a place where you've done well and you feel comfortable. You know, I'm just looking forward to keep doing the same things, keep hitting the ball well, keep chipping well and keep putting well and then hopefully by the end of the week, we'll be where we are supposed to be.
